Update

Despite the absence of kcwc updates lately I actually was sewing a l m o s t all week. I have only one finished piece to show you, a knight's tunic I put together very-last-minute for a dress-up party at preschool.

It's freezer paper stencils on a piece of old Ikea linen curtain. We paired it with a braided belt and a wooden sword. (Mama-made and last-minute is how we do most costumes in this household...)

I really really hope I can organize myself enough to complete at least one or two of the projects I didn't finish. I really got a kick out of sewing actively again!

I paid 10 cents for this tiny glass bottle at the flea market. Perfect for bouquets picked by little hands.

Glad Vappen!

KCWC: Day 2

Another cap. This one is for my five-year-old. I finally figured out how to do the elastic neatly. On sisters cap I sewed the elastic at least five times before I was satisfied, and now I'm tempted to pull out the seam ripper again and do the elastic on her cap one last time...

The fabric is another vintage children's fabric that I got from this Etsy shop, specifically with this project in mind. I think it turned out pretty cute. The pattern is Coconut from Ottobre 3/2010.

KCWC: Day 1

I finished M's summer cap. The pattern is Coconut from Ottobre 3/2010. It's the same cap I made last year, and we liked it so much I had to make one for this summer too.

The fabric is a soft vintage cotton with Sandman motif. I think the fabric is from Germany, and it's one of my all time favorite vintage children's prints!

Miss woke up with a fever this morning...

To-make

Kids Clothes Week Challenge is just days away and I have prepared nothing. To motivate myself to actually follow through with my intentions I'm publishing my to-do list:

  • Complete M's half-finished summer cap. Only thing missing is an elastic.
  • Maybe make the same cap for J. I've got the perfect fabric for it.
  • Jersey beanies for both M and J.
  • T-shirt for J. Or two. And maybe one for M too.
  • Long sleeved tee for M.
  • I also have a half-finished tunic for M that's been sitting in my stash for weeks months. I've cut out all the pieces, the fabric is super cute (click here) but I'm still dragging my feet... I'm just so, well, tired in the evenings - which is when I have sewing time. It's tricky.

Nevertheless I'm excited about next week. And I hope I will get the energy and motivation to check at least a few things off the list once I get into the routine of sewing a little every night. These are all things my kids really need and if I don't make them myself I'll have to buy them. Which would be easier but not nearly as much fun. There's something so satisfying in making things with your own two hands for your children.

It was raining today. We ate dough.
